Application of Linear Screens in the Pharmaceutical Industry

As core screening equipment for pharmaceutical production, linear screens feature high precision, fully sealed structure, easy cleaning and full GMP compliance. They are widely used for bulk pharmaceutical chemicals, traditional Chinese medicine preparations, granules and pills, serving as vital equipment to guarantee pharmaceutical safety and boost production efficiency.

For processing Western medicine raw materials and auxiliary materials, linear screens perform high-precision impurity removal and particle size classification. Chemically synthesized bulk drugs often contain impurities such as unreacted particles and metal scraps after reaction. Linear screens separate these substances accurately through 200–300 mesh high-precision screens to meet purity standards of raw pharmaceuticals. For pharmaceutical excipients including starch and lactose, the equipment filters out foreign matters like fibers and agglomerates, maintaining uniform consistency of excipients and preventing adverse impacts on tablet hardness and capsule filling fluidity. The whole machine is constructed of 304/316 stainless steel, with mirror polishing on material contact surfaces. Its dead-space-free design enables easy cleaning and complies with pharmaceutical hygiene criteria.

In the production of traditional Chinese medicine preparations, linear screens satisfy diverse demands for herbal powder, extracts and pills. After crushing medicinal herbs, particle size directly affects drug efficacy release and preparation stability. Linear screens classify astragalus powder, angelica powder and other herbal powders to 150–200 mesh, removing medicinal residues and crude fibers to improve the utilization rate of herbal powder. For water-honeyed pills and concentrated pills in pill manufacturing, the equipment precisely screens out defective products such as connected and broken pills. Its unique amplitude design prevents dry pills from breaking and wet pills from deforming. After implementation at one manufacturer, the reject rate of pills dropped below 1%.

During finished preparation processing, linear screens ensure uniform quality of granules, capsules and tablets. Screening cold granules removes fine powder and oversized particles to achieve consistent particle size and identical dissolution rates. Screening raw materials prior to capsule filling avoids blockages of filling machines caused by coarse particles and ensures compliant weight variation of each capsule. Meanwhile, the fully enclosed structure equipped with a negative pressure dust removal system reduces workshop dust concentration to below 0.5mg/m³, effectively preventing cross-contamination and optimizing the production environment.

Compared with conventional screening machines, linear screens offer larger throughput, superior screening accuracy and stable operation. They support continuous production, cut manual intervention and reduce labor intensity and human errors. Amid the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical sector, linear screens are continuously upgraded in material and structural design to adapt to special working conditions such as aseptic production and explosion protection, delivering reliable support for full-lifecycle quality control of pharmaceuticals.
