Application of Bucket Elevators in the Food Industry

As critical vertical conveying equipment in the food industry, bucket elevators feature sanitary design, low material breakage rate and strong space adaptability. They are widely adopted in grain processing, snack food production, condiment manufacturing and other sectors, serving as core support for efficient and safe operation of food production lines.

In grain processing, bucket elevators act as primary conveying equipment for raw materials including wheat, corn and rice. Constructed with food-grade 304 stainless steel and mirror-polished buckets free of welding dead corners, the machines can be cleaned with high-pressure water guns and sterilized by steam, fully complying with GB 14881 General Sanitary Code for Food Production and effectively preventing raw material contamination. To tackle the problem of fragile grains, the equipment adopts shallow or scoop-shaped buckets with operating speed controlled between 1.2 m/s and 1.8 m/s, cutting the grain breakage rate below 0.5% and maximizing grain integrity. Featuring a compact vertical structure that can be installed close to walls, the elevators deliver lifting heights ranging from 5 to 30 meters, fitting narrow spaces such as flour mills and grain silos to realize efficient transfer of raw materials from underground silos to processing machines and storage bins.

For snack food and nut processing, bucket elevators address conveying difficulties of fragile materials. For easily damaged products like potato chips, biscuits, peanuts and pistachios, swing bucket elevators run at low speed (≤0.3 m/s) and discharge materials by gravity through bucket turnover. This avoids collision and friction between materials to achieve zero-breakage conveying, preventing issues such as peanut skin shedding and biscuit fragmentation. The fully sealed housing stops dust leakage, which not only avoids quality degradation caused by fine crumbs from puffed food but also improves workshop environment to meet dust-free food processing standards.

In powder and condiment industries, bucket elevators are suitable for conveying flour, starch, milk powder, seasonings and other materials. The fully enclosed structure limits powder leakage rate to ≤0.1%, reducing powder contamination and loss while inhibiting pest and rodent breeding. Z-type bucket elevators support multi-point feeding and multi-point discharging, flexibly connecting mixers, packaging machines and other equipment to satisfy multi-process conveying demands of powder materials. In addition, food-grade materials resist acid and alkaline cleaning, making the elevators applicable for conveying condiments and other materials containing corrosive ingredients to guarantee production safety.

With continuously rising requirements for production efficiency and safety standards in the food industry, bucket elevators have undergone sanitary, low-breakage and intelligent upgrades to fully adapt to all food processing scenarios. From raw material handling to finished product transportation, they resolve the pain points of traditional equipment including large floor space, high contamination risks and excessive material loss. They also help food enterprises realize standardized and high-efficiency production, making them indispensable core equipment for the modern food industry.
